NoFap is a phenomenon that has gained an immense popularity last 5 to 10 years. Although I think the idea is positive, there is a problem with NoFap.
The twenty-third chapter of the Tao Te Ching is one of the most memorable for me. It provides us the reality of the temporary nature of things and that excess is not a good thing to strive for. We should not embrace extremes, but accept reality for what it is.
A thing that I have been wanting to talk about for a long time is the phenomenon of NoFap. Reading the twenty-third chapter a few times gave me that spark to address this topic now.
My personal experiences with NoFap go back about 7 or 8 years. The period before that I was completely in the dark when it comes to the dangers of porn usage, although I slowly but surely started to come to the conclusion that I was addicted. Simply, because I couldn’t stop watching and jerking off to porn; even while I was in a relationship at that time.
When I discovered NoFap a whole new world opened up to me. It turned out that I was not the only one that started to question the vast usage of high speed internet porn that is going on these days. Many men (and women) were struggling. Porn rewires your brain, it not only makes you addicted in a way that can be compared to a cocaine addiction; it also causes physical problems like anxiety, depression and erectile dysfunction.
But, there is a problem with this ‘lifestyle’.
